English books

1984 by George Orwell

Today I would like to share with all of you a book named 1984 by George Orwell. It is a classic dystopian novel published in 1949. I enjoyed the book because it displayed human nature in a very base way. It shows great passion, deceit, love, and a plethora of other emotions. It was well written, and the message it gave was clear.

The thing that I thought was interesting was how Mr. Orwell wrote the book predicting the future. The book was actually written in 1948 about the future, which at the time was 1984. It was interesting to see how he could predict things which happened later in life. It was also interesting to see how imaginative he is with his writing.

In the novel 1984, Winston Smith, an average, middle-aged, low-level government worker begins to open his eyes to the world. He glimpses the injustice, deceit and cruelty that frame his government. Winston begins to rebel against the government in small, but increasingly dangerous acts. He knows the risk, and knows the consequence, but also realizes that life is not worth living without freedom. That life is worthless without hope, and that he alone can decide how to live his life. As compared to the world portrayed in 1984, the world that we now live in the year of 2015 is a kind and just place. People live in a relatively comfortable environment and we enjoy more freedom, with some sense of security not found in Orwell’s 1984. The question arises though, even in our relative paradise, how far does our world differ from that nightmare of 1984? Can it be that our society is far more fragile than we believe; could we too soon fall to desperation and deceit?

Overall, I give this book a maximum five out of five stars. It was a book that clearly stated the views of George Orwell, while still remaining entertaining and suspenseful at times. It was a novel that definitely inspired me to continue reading each day until I finished it, and then to analyze what I found from the novel. The characters in this novel are well thought of and this could most indefinitely turn out to be a real-life situation. The plot line and theme are what show most of the views of George Orwell, the author, and I agree with his views on everything that happens in this novel.

I personally loved this book because its breath taking and it always keeps you on the edge. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes history and to anyone who is a rebel inside.
